After-School Care
The After-School Care Program (ASC) serves children in Kindergarten through eighth (8th) grade and runs during the school year from late August to May, including some HISD inservice days and holidays. ASC provides your child with opportunities in educational development and study time, physical fitness and recreation, and creative enrichment.
Two staffed homework rooms are available Monday through Thursday for students to complete school homework assignments and to receive tutoring. Our staff works one-on-one with students to offer educational support and help children use time productively to succeed.
Physical fitness and recreation include gym sport activities and games, field sports, tennis, and playground. These physical activities are great ways for your child to get exercise and release energy, develop motor skills and coordination, and have fun playing games with friends during after school hours.
Students engage in a variety of other age-appropriate projects and skill activities that stimulate a child's cognitive, emotional, and creative development and motor coordination as well as offer positive experiences with others. Children have opportunities to participate in weekly art and science enrichment projects, read through our class library, write using various supplies, story-tell, listen to music, construct and build with a variety of materials, play chess and other skill-oriented card and board games, and learn on the computer.
Students participate in regular items including Show n' Tell, Story Time, and Kids' Klubs to develop their personal interests as well as enjoy special days like western, cooking, voting, or science days. Students experience interesting and educational field trips to places including the rodeo, children's theatre, grocery store, and museums and enjoy special events like Fall Swim Days and pizza parties.
In addition to many ASC activities, students may also enroll in classes with programs at the church in athletics, music, voice, ballet, jazz dance, Tae Kwon Do, etc. (See Youth Sports & Recreation and Bridges Academy.)
St. Luke's ASC provides transportation from the following schools (with a minimum of five students per school) to the church:
- Mark Twain Elementary
- Poe Elementary
- Roberts Elementary
- St. John's School
- School for Young Children
- West University Elementary
- Lanier Middle School
